On Tuesday afternoon, October 31, Queen Maxima presented the Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2023 Prize at the award ceremony held in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The winner was announced by State Secretary Gunay Uslu (Culture and Media). The nominees were visual artists Ghita Skali, Jonas Staal, Josefin Arnell and Michael Tedja, and this year's awardee is visual artist Jonas Staal.
The Prix de Rome is the incentive prize for visual artists from the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The aim of the Prix de Rome is to discover talented artists, stimulate their development, increase their visibility and thus ensure the update of the field of visual arts. The prize has been organized and financed by the Mondriaan Fonds since 2012.
