Japan's new Emperor Naruhito's first audience at the Imperial Palace

On May 1, 2019, Wednesday, with a ritual held at the Imperial Palace, Naruhito inherited the royal regalia that serves as ceremonial proof of his ascension, including a sacred sword and jewels. Japan's new Emperor Naruhito and new Empress Masako attended a ceremony called Sokui-go-Choken-no-gi, his first audience after the accession to the throne, at the Imperial Palace. Crown Prince Fumihito, Crown Princess Kiko, Princesses Mako and Kako were present at the ceremony. On October 22, ceremonies will be held with the attendance of heads of state and government from around the world in order to celebrate the new "Reiwa" era.
