(Toggle) The 29th Golden Melody Awards was held on Saturday (June 23) in Taiwan.
The two biggest awards of the night were won by Hong Kong singer-actor Eason Chan, who went home with his third Best Male Singer award, as well as the Album of the Year award for C'mon In~. Eason had won the Best Male Singer awards during the 14th and 26th editions of the annual awards show.
The 43-year-old thanked his staff and fans in his speech, humbly saying, “It feels like I did nothing much, but I’ve received so much.”
Taiwanese singer Lala Hsu, who made her singing debut 10 years ago, won her first Best Female Singer award, as well as the Best Mandarin Album award for her latest release The Inner Me. The entire venue broke out in applause when the results were announced, with Lala’s director boyfriend, Bill Chia, forming a heart sign with his hands to show his support for her.
Local singer JJ Lin, who had garnered a total of six nominations including Song of the Year and Best Male Singer for his album Message in a Bottle, walked away empty-handed.
The 37-year-old, however, seemed unaffected by his loss, cheerily comparing it to a basketball match.
“It’s a competition [after all], just like a basketball match, there’ll always be winners and losers. After climbing up [from a loss], [I’ll] become better the next time,” he said.
Taiwanese singer A-Mei also received a total of six nominations for Story Thief, breaking her own personal record, but also emerged empty-handed.
