Crown Princess Leonor turns 18 today and thus comes of age. Leonor, Princess of Asturias was born on October 31, 2005 in Madrid. Crown Princess Leonor took an oath to the Spanish Constitution on her birthday in a ceremony before the Cortes Generales in the presence of both members of the Congress and the Senate.
Princess Leonor made her solemn oath and was watched by her father, King Felipe VI, and her mother, Queen Letizia. Crown Princess Leonor's younger sister, Infanta Sofia was also present at the ceremony. In the evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will host a private dinner at El Pardo Palace.
After the oath-taking ceremony, the collar of The Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III was presented to her. The Order of Charles III, established by King Charles III of Spain, dates back to 1771. It is meant to reward people for their actions that benefit Spain and the Crown. It is the highest civilian honor given by the Spanish Kingdom.
