On October 12, 2020, King Felipe, Queen Letizia and their daughters Crown Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia attended National Day 2020 celebrations at the Plaza de la Armería of the Royal Palace of Madrid. During a ceremony, the National Flag was raised and a homage ceremony to the National Flag took place. Queen Letizia wore a bespoke dress and coat from Felipe Varela.
October 12 is a national holiday in Spain. It is officially called as the Fiesta Nacional, or the Dia de la Hispanidad – Hispanic Day –. On that day, Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492. The participation at the celebration was limited this year due to the pandemic. This year, the traditional reception in the halls of the palace was not held after the military event.
