During the meeting that lasted for about two hours, the Emperor and Empress received information about COVID-19's impact on education, the challenges facing the educational field and future measures. On October 1, 2020, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko attended the opening ceremony of the 75th Japan Media Arts Festival at the National Theatre in Chiyoda, Tokyo. That became the first public activity of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko since February.
Princess Kako watched the 7th National High School Sign Language Performance Competition, which was held online this year due to the pandemic, from the Akishino residence. The Princess sent a video message for the opening ceremony. 15 teams took part in the online competition with their pre-recorded performances.
