Queen Silvia gave an interview for Henrik Frenkel's podcast 'Help - I have Alzheimer’s Disease' (Hjälp - jag har Alzheimer!) ahead of 'International Alzheimer's Day' which is celebrated on September 21. The 70-year-old journalist Henrik Frenkel is the founder of the Alzheimer Life Foundation. During the interview done at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the Queen talked about her long commitment to dementia issues, including the establishment of Silviahemmet in the 1990s.
The Queen also talked about her work to spread knowledge about dementia and isolation during the corona pandemic. The Queen is doubtful about whether society has succeeded in its goal of protecting the elderly during the pandemic. The Queen said: "It is extremely frightening that so many elderly people have died in the pandemic in Sweden. And it was with sadness in my heart that I saw that all the elderly who died became just a number in the statistics."
In the interview, the Queen told what the Royal Couple did during their quarantine. She also spoke about Silviahemmet and what she thinks of her neighbors in Drottningholm. The corona pandemic, like everyone else, forced the royal couple to change their lives and they remained isolated in Stenhammar’s castle. The Silviahemmet Foundation was founded by Queen Silvia. The objective of the Foundation is to contribute to the highest possible quality of life for those suffering from dementia and for their families.
