On September 17, 2020, Crown Princess Mary attended the opening of the Australian War Memorial at Churchill Park (Churchillparken) in Copenhagen. The Australian War Memorial was built for the purpose of commemorating the Australian military personnel who contributed to the liberation of Denmark during World War II as well as the fallen Australian soldiers from the First World War.
After the opening, Crown Princess Mary paid a visit to "The monument for Denmark’s international effort since 1948" at the Citadel (Kastellet) in Copenhagen. For the many Danes who have been deployed to conflict and catastrophe areas, for the currently deployed, for those who will be deployed in future and for those who fell in service, the Danish government decided in 2009 to establish this monument.
An information center has been established beside "The monument for Denmark's international effort since 1948" and gives visitors an insight into the missions that Danish emissaries have been on since 1948. The Monument by artist Finn Reinbothe was erected by the Danish people and opened on the Flag Day 5 September 2011.
