A new film combining the work of seven elite Chinese directors including Chen Kaige, and with an all-star cast, will be released on Oct. 1 to celebrate China's progress and historic moments in the past seven decades.
"Me and My Motherland," a combination of seven short films focusing on seven ordinary Chinese individuals who have grown up with China and experienced seven significant historic moments, will be directed by a team of China's most celebrated directors of different generations: Chen Kaige ("Farewell My Concubine"), Zhang Yibai ("Spring Subway"), Guan Hu ("Mr. Six"), Xue Xiaolu ("Finding Mr. Right"), Xu Zheng ("Lost In Thailand"), Ning Hao ("Crazy Alien") and Wen Muye ("Dying To Survive").
Chen Kaige, whose work has been recognized through various domestic and foreign film awards including the Palme d'Or from the Cannes Film Festival, will be the general director guiding the whole project. Producer and director Huang Jianxin ("The Founding of A Republic") will handle the production side.
An interesting note: the directors combined have won more than 100 awards and their films combined have earned more than 15 billion yuan ($2.18 billion), making them a true Dream Team in the Chinese film industry, generating huge audience anticipation.
The star-studded cast include elite and award-winning actors and actresses Ge You, Huang Bo, Simon Yam, Wang Tianchen, Tong Liya, Zhang Jiayi, Zhang Yi, Wang Qianyuan, Oho Ou, Liu Tao, Liu Haoran, Chen Feiyu, Hui Yinghong, Du Jiang and Song Jia.
Huaxia Film Distribution, the second-largest film distributor in China that is funding and producing the film, promises the film will have an innovative approach and will tell stories to revive the collective and shared memories of Chinese people.
"Me and My Motherland" will be released on Oct. 1, a significant National Day marking the 70th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China.
