The top-10 hits will be selected following evaluations from the China Audio-Video Association, music Industry heavyweights and fans. According to the organizers, they aim to spread and popularize good-quality Chinese songs in the multi-media era.
Renowned Chinese singer-songwriter Jay Chou has been hired as a spokesperson for the new chart. Chou is calling for more young music talents to join the contest.
The contestants must submit their works within the next two months. The best works will be presented to the public via an outdoor music festival and a music award ceremony to air on Zhejiang Satellite TV.
Both activities will be unveiled in July. "This series of activities are hoped to give the general public more choices in their music appreciation," said Zheng Jun, a veteran Chinese musician.
Today, many TV stations in China have launched reality shows to help incubate creative music talents. Zhejiang Satellite TV is among these platforms in promoting Chinese music by little-known singers. The station has launched shows like The Voice of China and Sound of My Dream.
