Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden was officially named as Årets Ölänning (the Öland Inhabitant of the Year) with a ceremony held in Solliden. Victoria received a diploma and the Solliden Award, a glass bowl from Kosta Boda called "Globe" from her father. The Öland Inhabitant of the Year is an award given by a jury appointed by the newspaper Barometern and Sveriges Radio P4 Kalmar. The Solliden Award is given to a person who made a remarkable contribution or performance within a specialist field or who took actions or initiatives that promote the interests and development of the island or who made long-term efforts for the benefit of Öland. At the award ceremony, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were present. |
