(Toggle) 56 and going strong: Hats off to Jacky Cheung for proving age is just a number with his amazing physical stamina.
The 55-year-old (he turns 56 this July) effortlessly worked all corners of his four-sided stage and danced and pranced with the agility of a ballet dancer at his first Singapore show (this is also his 56th concert stop) last night. And though he was down with a “small cold,” Jacky – in his signature rich baritone voice – delivered a flawless performance.
While bantering with the 10,000-strong crowd, the Hong Kong singer-songwriter profusely apologised for not being in tip-top condition and explained he fell ill because Singapore was “hot outside but cold inside (the buildings).”
“I want to assure everyone that although it may feel like a rehearsal session – please forgive me – I’ll bring the best performance to everyone,” he said with a chuckle. “So far so good lah.”
It was in fact more than just “good” - Jacky’s concert was a feast for the eyes and ears. His self-designed four-sided stage (this is also his first time performing on such a stage in Singapore) was another visual spectacle to behold with its multiple configurations.
