Hong Kong actor Nicholas Tse’s foodie movie ‘Cook Up A Storm’ to hit Chinese mainland theaters on Friday

(Global Times) As one of the last movies for this year's New Year movie season, Hong Kong movie star Nicholas Tse's latest work Cook Up A Storm is set to hit big screens across the country on Friday.

Widely known as a movie version of the star's popular foodie show Chef Nic, Cook Up A Storm sees Tse play a little known chef from Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province and the food capital of the country, who must put his cooking skills to the test by going up against a French Michelin three-star chef.

After the two become friends, Tse then takes part in a global chef competition to see who is the best cook in the world.

"It is a movie suitable for everyone in the family that will be perfect for the upcoming Lantern Festival and Valentine's Day," said the film's director Ye Weimin at the movie's Wednesday premiere in Beijing.

"Additionally, 3D is sure to make the food and dishes featured in the movie more enjoyable."

Originally set to release on January 28, fierce competition from other films set for that time period such as Jackie Chan's Kungfu Yoga and Stephen Chou's Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back forced the film's producers to move the release date to its current slot.

Kungfu Yoga has earned 1.43 billion yuan ($208 million), while The Demons Strike Back has earned 1.53 billion yuan.
