Ann Hui's new war epic marks HK's return to China

"Our Time Will Come," directed by Ann Hui, will mark the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.
As probably the most esteemed art-house director from Hong Kong, Ann Hui's new mix of art-house drama and war epic will star Zhou Xun, Eddie Peng, Guo Tao, Jiang Wenli, Wallace Huo, Tony Leung, Ray Lui, Deanie Ip, Paw Hee-ching, Sam Lee and Chun Xia.
Set between 1941 and 1945, it tells the story of legendary heroine Fang Gu, who is one of the key figures during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. It will also portray the fight, rescue and struggle by youths in the wartime resistance groups.
Yu Dong, the president of Polybona Films, which produced the film, said that "Our Time Will Come" will be a very different work from Hui's previous films. "You will see an aggressive, courageous and bloody Ann Hui in the film," he added.
Though Ann Hui's last epic "The Golden Era" failed at box offices, it won Best Film and Best Director awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards. "Our Time Will Come" will likely be a great contender for various film awards and festivals if Hui hasn't lost a grip of her own artistry.
The film is going to be released on July 1, 2017, 20 years after the day Britain transferred Hong Kong's sovereignty back to China in 1997, making Hong Kong an autonomous special administrative region.
