(CRI) The shooting of a new fantasy film "The Legend of the Cat Demon" has come to an end. The movie, with a Chinese name "Yao Mao Zhuan" ("妖猫传"), is the latest offering from acclaimed Chinese director Chen Kaige.
Chinese actor Huang Xuan, who plays a leading role in Yao Mao Zhuan, highly recommended the new film at a promotional event held recently in Sanlitu, a fashion center and nightlife hotspot in Beijing.
"I think this movie would bring audiences pleasant surprises, for it has an interesting story plot and its way of telling the story is unique. Also, the movie mixes fantasy with realism."
Based on a tale by Japanese writer Yumemakura Baku, the movie focuses on the chapters surrounding the demon cat and takes place during the Late Tang Dynasty.
A sense of unrest befalls the capital of Chang'an following the arrival of a demon cat. A poet is charged with investigating the case.
The Legend of the Cat Demon is scheduled to hit Chinese theatres in December 2017.
