The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh will chair the 22nd Meeting of the Western Zonal Council in Mumbai on Friday. Chief Ministers of Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra besides the Administrators of the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are scheduled to attend the meeting.
The meeting will firm up plans for countering terrorism including operationalization of Coastal Police Station, construction/upgradation of jetties, creation of Common Coastal Security portal of fishermen/boats and computerization of their movement and review the status of Modernization of Police Force. The progress in respect of issuance of Biometric Identity Cards to fishermen and availability of Smart Card Readers to the State Governments and UT Administration will also be reviewed.Besides, the issue of linking Biometric Cards with Aadhar will also be taken up.
Maharashtra State Government has sponsored the issue related to provisioning of surplus land of various Organizations/Agencies of Central Government for achieving the objective of ‘Housing for All: 2022’. Gujarat State Government has proposed the agenda for establishment of an international class museum on Harappan civilization near the archaeological site at Dholavira in Kutch district. It will also examine the proposal to set up a Regional Development Authority for Development of Infrastructure by the Government of Gujarat.
Development issues such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for All (Urban) Mission, implementation of Street Vendors (Protection and Regulation) Act, 2014, Shelters for Urban Homeless and applicability of Notification Act, 2006 relating to Forest Clearance in Gujarat.
The Meeting will also consider six items that remained unresolved during the 21stMeeting of the Western Zonal Council held at Panaji on September 29, 2015. Standing Committee of the Western Zonal Council resolved two issues out of these six unresolved issues in its 9th Meeting held on March 23, 2016
