King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden celebrates his Golden Jubilee today by being the first monarch in his country’s history to reign for 50 years. King Carl Gustaf ascended the throne on September 15, 1973 upon the death of his grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolph.
