On July 7, 2023, Queen Mathilde of Belgium attended the 19th edition of the Coronation Festival (Kroningsfeesten) in Tongeren. The Festival are organized every seven years in commemoration of the crowning of the miraculous statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Bishop Doutreloux in 1890. The celebrations last for four days. The Coronation Celebrations are recognized as intangible cultural heritage.
