King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited La Palma to receive information about the situation caused by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano four days after the disaster. A volcano eruption on La Palma in the Canary Islands destroyed houses and forced about 5,500 residents to evacuate. The eruption started on 19 September 2021 and is currently continuing. No casualties have so far been reported. There were mandatory evacuation orders for four villages and temporary shelters were set up.
