Japanese Crown Princess Kiko celebrates her 54th birthday today. Kiko, Princess Akishino, Crown Princess of Japan, is the wife of Fumihito, Crown Prince Akishino. On the occasion of that birthday, Imperial Household Agency of Japan released new photos of the Crown Princess. The photos were taken on August 14.
In written answers to questions by journalists prior to her birthday, Crown Princess Kiko expressed her appreciation for medical workers on the front line of the fight against the novel coronavirus. Crown Princess Kiko said she wants to "respect as much as possible" the feelings of her eldest daughter Princess Mako, whose marriage to her boyfriend has been postponed for nearly two years.
"In regards to my eldest daughter's marriage, we should communicate extensively, and it is important that I accept my daughter's feelings as a parent and think about the matter together," the crown princess said in a statement. It is customary for the imperial household to release a statement by the crown princess every year around her birthday.
