On June 27, Danish Princess Benedikte attended the opening of Jacob A. Riis Museum in Ribe city of Southwest Jutland. Jacob A. Riis was born in Denmark in May 1849 and emigrated to the USA in 1870. He is one of the most influential journalists and social reformers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and documented and helped to improve the living conditions of millions of poor immigrants in New York. The museum focuses on the life and memory of Jacob A. Riis and his importance for the immigrant community in New York. Princess Benedikte is Patron of Jacob A. Riis Museum. |
