(China Plus) Chinese actress Zhao Tao has won the "Best Performance by An Actress" prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards which were held in Brisbane, Australia on Thursday night.
Zhao won the prize for her film "Ash Is Purest White", which is director Jia Zhangke's gangster epic and tells a twisting tale of love in 21st-century China.
However, Zhao Tao, who is working in Italy, was absent from the award ceremony.
Director Jia, Zhao Tao's husband received the award on her behalf.
To date, Zhao Tao has become the third Chinese actress who won the "best actress prize" at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, following household names Zhang Ziyi and Lu Zhong.
This year, a total of 46 movies from 22 countries have competed for the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Acclaimed Japanese drama Shoplifters took home the prize for best film.
