Dante Lam's military blockbuster "Operation Red Sea" was voted best picture at an award ceremony to close the 25th Beijing College Student Film Festival in Beijing on Sunday.
The organizers have accepted submissions from film production companies since early December 2017 and received nearly 300 Chinese films (including Chinese-foreign co-productions) for its competition section.
After a preliminary vote, 34 domestic-made Chinese films made the final shortlist. The jury then voted to hand out 15 awards at the ceremony.
Director Feng Xiaogang won the Best Director Award for his film "Youth." The actresses of the film, Zhong Chuxi and Miao Miao, both won Best Newcomer Award.
"This is the 25th year of my film career, the same age of the festival, " Feng said when he took the trophy. "I hope I can stick to realist filmmaking."
Veteran actor Chang Chen and actress Zhou Xun won Best Actor and Best Actress awards while "The Looming Storm" won the Best Directorial Debut Award.
Awards were also awarded based on the popularity of the films among the students. "Detective Chinatown 2" won the Most Popular Film Among College Students award.
"I have made three films thus far in my career as director. They have all received awards at the festival, " director Chen Sicheng happily said. "I want to continue to keep in touch with this festival."
Actor Li Chen won the Most Popular Director Among College Students award for his directorial debut "Sky Hunter." He paid a special tribute to his actress girlfriend Fan Bingbing on the stage, "she gave me the biggest support during the film production and always stood by me. Thank you and I love you."
