(Toggle) Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming flew to Taiwan yesterday (May 29) to promote his upcoming Chinese movie, Forever Young. It was his first time back in Taiwan since the birth of his son, 1-year-old “Little Sponge”, in January last year.
While he was there, the 40-year-old actor was praised for maintaining his youthful good looks. “I feel younger than before,” he agreed, “I haven’t been working over the past year because I wanted to spend more time with my family. Maybe that’s why.”
Xiaoming told the media that turning 40 has made him think about his future plans. “I’m going to choose my projects more carefully from now on,” he expressed, “That does not mean that I will stop acting altogether, because I still need to support my family.”
“My son is still very young, so it’s hard for him to travel around,” he added, “When he grows a little older, he can even visit us on set.”
Besides becoming more selective at work, Xiaoming also revealed that becoming a director for a movie is part of his plans. “It’s important to have a good storyline. If I could, I would like to direct a movie about kinship,” he said. As a director, however, he will have second thoughts about casting his wife, Chinese actress Angelababy.
“Isn’t it boring to see us together all the time? I will only consider casting her if there was a suitable role for her,” he joked.
To turn his dreams into reality, the actor was said to have actively invested in films that he personally enjoyed. Besides Forever Young, he also invested in 2018 Chinese film Long Day’s Journey into Night, which was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
With regards to Angelababy’s previous statement about having a second child only after “Little Sponge” turns 4, Xiaoming expressed that he will “respect his wife’s decision”.
“I would love to have a daughter next, but I will respect my wife’s decision because she is the one who will have to endure the hardships of pregnancy,” he said.
