Legendary rock band Metallica will play a concert in Shanghai next January before continuing to Beijing and other Asian cities.
The Grammy-winning band announced its return to Asia with a tour date in Shanghai on Jan. 15, 2017 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Priced at 480 -- 1980 yuan, tickets will go on sale from 2 p.m. on Dec. 13 through ticketing hotline 400-610-3721, and online via China's Damai.cn. Their Beijing concert, which has opened earlier ticket presale than Shanghai's, was sold out in minutes.
Metallica was formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, and has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide while playing to millions of fans on literally all seven continents. The act has also garnered numerous awards and acco-lades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.
The band released their eleventh studio album, "Hardwired…To Self-Destruct," on Nov. 18 through Blackened Record-ings. The double CD set earned the band their sixth number one album on the Billboard Top 200 and debuted at number one in 23 countries. The album is produced by Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed the band's "Death Magnetic" album in 2008.
In addition to the Shanghai concert, Metallica will play in Seoul (Jan. 11), Beijing (Jan. 18), Hong Kong (Jan. 20) and Singapore (Jan. 22).
