China's Huace Film & TV to Produce ITV Studios Scripted Format

(THR) "Much like the rest of the world, the demand for drama in Asia continues to grow," said an exec from ITV, while declining to name which of its many formats would be adapted for China.

Huace Film & TV has signed a deal to produce a Chinese version of an unnamed ITV Studios scripted format, the two partners announced Monday.

Huace will handle the Chinese-language show's subsequent distribution across Asia, while ITV Studios will oversee sales for the rest of the world. Beyond that it will be a scripted drama format, additional details on the show to be adapted were not revealed.

"Much like the rest of the world, the demand for drama in Asia continues to grow," said Mike Beale, executive vp global development and formats for ITV Studios. "We are excited about working with Huace on this new deal. We have a wide and rich portfolio of scripted shows, and it's a perfect fit with our global content strategy to exploit this in Asia and beyond."

Last year, ITVS GE and Huace announced a cooperative agreement with Beijing TV for the figure skating show Star on Ice to be produced in China in the lead-up to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. The first season will air in January.

Listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange and based in Hangzhou, Huace is one of China's larger TV and film production companies, specializing in TV dramas.
